Police in Giyani launch manhunt for suspects who shot and killed a 36-year-old man in Hlaneki

The Police at Giyani in Mopani District have activated a massive manhunt for the suspects following the fatal shooting of a 36-year-old man, along a gravel road to Hlaneki mine in Hlaneki.The incident took place on Saturday, 22 July 2023 at around 17:00.

It is alleged that, the victim was driving a Blue Toyota bakkie with two passengers and were about to collect the firewood that were already packed at Hlaneki village when a group of unknown suspects emerged and fired shots at their vehicle. Thereafter, the suspects drove off in a sky blue Toyota Corolla. The driver sustained gunshot wounds and passengers escaped unhurt.

According to the information it is alleged that the driver was hired to fetch firewood at the said area. The Police and emergency personnels were summoned to the scene, and on their arrival at the crime scene they found the driver still in the motor vehicle, with gunshot wounds. He was certified dead at the scene by EMS and was identified as Obey Ngoveni (36) from N’wamankena village.

The Police have opened a case of murder for further investigation. The motive for the attack and subsequent killing is unknown.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has called upon the Community to assist by providing information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects.
