Burkina: The CIL calls for the transformation of interaction tools for the benefit of social cohesion

The President of the Commission for Information Technology and Liberties (CIL), Marguerite Ouédraogo/Bonané, has called on the more than two million Facebook and WhatsApp users in Burkina Faso, to transform these platforms for the benefit of living together and social cohesion, to the detriment of posts contrary to morality and good customs.

“With more than two million users on Facebook and WhatsApp in Burkina Faso, we must think more than ever about transforming these instruments of communication and mass interaction for the benefit of our living together and social cohesion, a guarantee of “a sustained development of our country in a context of multifaceted tensions”, affirmed the president of the Commission of data processing and freedoms (CIL), Marguerite Ouédraogo/Bonané, in a declaration of which the AIB received a copy Thursday.

She spoke on Thursday, during the first edition of the National Day for the Protection of Personal Data under the theme: “For an inclusive digital world, concerned about the protection of personal data, I am committed”.

Ms. Ouédraogo called for more reflection to minimize the violation of people’s rights in the processing of their personal data.

“Through digital, refraining from undermining the reputation, the privacy of others, from posting obscene images that infringe morality and good customs, has become a challenge for us”, a-t- she argued.

The first person in charge of the CIL indicated that on the occasion of the day, activities of sensitization, training and information of various socio-professional layers will be carried out so that they appropriate the use of ICT, while guarding against related setbacks.

“This commemoration process will make it possible to sensitize the populations to derive the maximum benefits from the Internet and digital platforms while not concealing the real consequences of possible misuse”, concluded the President of the CIL.

The National Day for the Protection of Personal Data was adopted by the National Assembly on March 30, 2021, allowing the Commission for Data Processing and Freedoms (CIL) to adopt a legal instrument.
