Cheetah Cement Factory Announces New Wage Agreement with Employees

OTJIWARONGO—Whale Rock Cement, trading as Cheetah Cement Factory, unveiled a new wage agreement with its workforce on Friday, for its factory located outside Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa Region.

According to News Releases by Namibia Press Agency, the negotiations were initiated in May 2023 and concluded on October 17, 2023. The Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN) represented the employees during the discussions. The agreement outlines a six per cent salary increase across the board for the financial years of 2023/2024 and 2025, effective from July 1, 2023.

Additional terms of the agreement include an elevation in the daily food allowance for workers from N.dollars 30 to N.dollars 50. Housing allowances were also adjusted upward from N.dollars 1,000 to N.dollars 1,120. All these benefits will be backdated to July 2023.

Cheetah Cement Factory employs a total of 150 workers at its facility, situated approximately six kilometres north of Otjiwarongo.
