MoHSS Pursues Public-Private Partnership for Renovation of Windhoek Central Nurses’ Homes

Windhoek, Namibia – The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) is actively working on establishing a Private Public Partnership (PPP) for the renovation of the nurses’ homes at Windhoek Central Hospital, as stated by the Executive Director, Ben Nangombe, on Monday.

According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), the government has initiated the process of partnering with the private sector for the renovation project. However, details about the potential private partner remain undisclosed at this stage. Nangombe mentioned that a bid notice for the collaboration will only be advertised following legal advice on the appropriate way forward.

The decision to renovate the nurses’ homes, located within the premises of Windhoek Central Hospital, was prompted by recent complaints regarding their deteriorating condition. In September, MoHSS announced that it had cleared two of the four blocks in preparation for the renovation work.

This initiative is part of the ministry’s broader commitment to address the state of disrepair in which the nurses’ homes and doctors’ quarters have been found in recent years. Reports had surfaced of general maintenance issues and concerns over the buildings’ conditions.

An earlier report by Nampa highlighted additional problems linked to the cleanliness at the health facility, exacerbated by residents of the nurses’ homes. Allegations were made that some residents were littering from their windows and balconies, contributing to environmental neglect, partly attributed to a lack of monitoring.
