Kilifi Journalists Form Press Club to Strengthen Media Sector

KILIFI—Journalists in Kilifi County, in collaboration with the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), inaugurated their Press Club on Tuesday, setting a new foundation for unity and enhanced working conditions within the media fraternity.

According to Kenya News Agency, the formation of the club is a significant step towards consolidating efforts among media practitioners, facilitating the exchange of ideas, and outlining plans for the advancement of journalism in the region.

Omwoyo announced the upcoming launch of a Media Hub designed to serve as a centralized workspace for journalists in Kilifi, addressing the challenge of inadequate office facilities and the closure of regional media offices. He expressed gratitude for the support from both the County and National governments, particularly the County ICT Department and the area Member of Parliament, in backing this initiative.

Kilifi Press Club Chairman, Mr. Elias Yaa, underscored the club’s goals to foster unity, encourage positive interactions among local journalists, and mentor emerging talent in the field. Yaa emphasized the importance of collaboration among media professionals to accelerate growth and contribute to the county’s overall development.

The establishment of the club and the planned Media Hub are praised by local officials, including Kilifi North Member of Parliament, Owen Baya, who highlighted the importance of the press club in promoting journalistic development and ensuring accurate storytelling within society. Baya also called on media practitioners to adhere to high standards of professionalism and originality in their reporting.

The initiative by the Kilifi journalists, supported by the Media Council of Kenya, marks a significant stride in enhancing the media landscape in Kilifi County, promising a brighter future for journalism in the area.
