Deputy Minister Reginah Mhaule launches 2022 Schools Democracy Week in Northern Cape, 22 Apr

Deputy Minister Dr Reginah Mhaule to launch the 2022 schools democracy week at Rekgaratlhile High School in Kuruman, Northern Cape

The Deputy Minister of Basic Education Dr Reginah Mhaule will on Friday, 22 April 2022 launch the 2022 Schools Democracy Week in partnership with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC). The launch of the School Democracy Week will take place at Rekgaratlhile High School in Seoding Village in Ga-Segonyana, John Taolo Gaetsewe district.

South Africa celebrates Freedom Month, which forever resonates as a turning point in our history, under the theme: “Consolidate our Democratic Gains”, to mark the country’s transition from the oppressive apartheid regime to a free democratic country.

The Deputy Minister will be joined by the MEC of Education in the Northern Cape Mr. Zolile Monakali, Northern Cape Provincial Electoral Officer Mr. Bonolo Modise, and the Mayors of the municipalities in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.

The DBE has a continued responsibility to raise awareness in schools about the significance of active citizenry in order to promote Democracy and Human Rights in SA. A designated “Democracy Week” will take place from 25-29 April 2022 where the IEC, together with the provincial Education Departments will run various activities in schools throughout the country.

The Deputy Minister will start the day with a school monitoring visit to Lareng Primary School in Kuruman.
