West Pokot Welcomes New County Commissioner with Calls for Teamwork

KAPENGURIA, Kenya – In a recent transition within the administrative ranks of West Pokot County, Abdulahi Khalif has taken up the role of County Commissioner (CC), bringing a strong message of unity and collaboration to the forefront. During the official handing over ceremony in Kapenguria, Khalif emphasized the importance of a unified government approach to enhance the efficiency of service delivery to the county’s residents.

According to Kenya News Agency, his tenure will focus on fostering teamwork across all departments, a strategy he believes is crucial for meeting the government’s objectives in the region. Having previously served as the Deputy County Commissioner for West Pokot Sub County from 2016 to 2020, Khalif brings a wealth of experience and familiarity with the county’s dynamics to his new role. “I have some knowledge about this area and I will pick from where I left off,” he stated, acknowledging the collective effort required to achieve success.

The outgoing CC, Apollo Okello, whom Khalif praised as a mentor, also advocated for the maintenance of strong interdepartmental relationships, underscoring the essence of cooperation in public service. Okello, reflecting on his seven years of service in West Pokot, expressed his hope for continued harmony among government officials.

The ceremony was attended by West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin, who extended a warm welcome to Khalif. Kachapin highlighted the pre-existing familiarity between them and reassured of the county government’s commitment to collaborate with the national government. He stressed the absence of barriers between the two levels of government, emphasizing their shared goal of delivering quality services to the public.

As Khalif assumes his new responsibilities, succeeding Okello who has moved to the Western Regional Office, the emphasis on teamwork and intergovernmental cooperation marks a hopeful chapter for West Pokot County in achieving its developmental and service delivery aspirations.
