Burkina Faso Union Reaffirms Commitment to Workers on Labor Day

OUAGADOUGOU—The Union Action Unit (UAS) reiterated its dedication to defending the rights and welfare of workers during the International Labor Day commemorations held on Wednesday. The event took place amid the ongoing security challenges facing Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the UAS is committed to its role in safeguarding both the material and moral interests of workers and engaging in citizen oversight. During a speech at the Ouagadougou Labor Exchange, a hub for union activities, Dramé emphasized the union’s solidarity with global workers and communities fighting for freedom, justice, and improved living and working conditions. Additionally, Dramé, who is also the president of the Autonomous Union of Information and Culture Workers (SYNATIC), urged union leaders and members to strengthen their efforts in advocacy and mobilization to align worker interests with those of the broader population.

The unions also expressed concerns over some of the measures implemented in the ongoing fight against terrorism, advocating for enhanced security for both people and property.
