Yatenga: Gas fireplaces reduce expenses at sites of displaced students

Ouahigouya, (AIB ) – Sites housing internally displaced students were equipped with gas stoves a few days ago. A week after receiving this endowment, the AIB visited the sites of internally displaced students to inquire about the use made of them and check the level of resilience of the actors.

They are cleaning ladies in the kitchen that we met on the spot. Large pots placed on gas fireplaces which have replaced the traditional stones, are the pride of the users.

For the teacher-manager of the site’s school canteen, Aguiratou Ouédraogo, the gas fireplaces are welcome.

“Already, we are seeing a considerable reduction in expenses related to the purchase of wood. Before, we spend an average of 30,000 to 40,000 CFA francs for three weeks of cooking to buy wood. These expenses increased the expenses of the parents of pupils who contributed for the purchase of wood in this context of vulnerability. These homes will help to reduce their suffering a little bit,” she said.

The president of the Association of Educating Mothers (AME) on the site, Mamouna Ouédraogo, favorably appreciates the use of gas for the canteen.

“They are less messy than firewood and less tiring. Cooking is fast. Despite the quantity of rations to prepare, we now manage to finish on time. This allows students to have their meals on time,” she said.

For her, there are four of them who do the cooking a day at school. But, she says, with these homes two women can now take care of the preparation.

On the side of the students, satisfaction is also there.

Fayssal Tao, a CM1 student at the Somwaya site in Gourga and a member of the school canteen management committee on the site, believes that gas fireplaces help save time.

“The gas fireplaces relieve us a lot because the preparation is fast. At 11 a.m. only, the meal is available and from 11:30 a.m., the dishes served. At the end of the classes, we no longer have to wait long, ”said the student.

Its head of class, Abdoul Maguid Ganamé, evokes ecological advantages.

“Gas fireplaces are very practical, economical and ecological. The smoke doesn’t bother us anymore,” he said.

He now pleads for a sufficient supply of food.

This initiative to provide the sites for internally displaced students in Titao and Tangaye is the work of the Beoog-neeré association.
