Burkina: The Prime Minister to economic operators: “Help us fight against corruption”

The Prime Minister, Dr Apollinaire Joachimson Kyélèm de Tambèla, closed, this Tuesday, July 04, 2023, in Bobo-Dioulasso, the work of the 5th edition of the National Meeting of the Consultation and Orientation for State/Private Sector Dialogue (CODESP).

This meeting was sanctioned by several recommendations capable of energizing the business world, and therefore the revival of our national economy.

For 48 hours, the work of the 5th edition of the National Meeting of the Consultation and Orientation Framework for State/Private Sector Dialogue (CODESP) enabled the Government and the Private Sector to discuss the theme: “The role of land in the promotion of productive investment in Burkina Faso”.

In the balance sheet, several recommendations emerged, the purpose of which concerns the influence of the business world.

On the occasion, the private sector, through the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Burkina Faso (CCI-BF) made an overall additional contribution of 567 million CFA francs to support the efforts already undertaken, including 500 million CFA francs from the 13 regions where the Regional Consular Delegations of the CCI-BF are located, 50 million CFA francs from the AFRICALLIA Forum and 17 million CFA francs from staff.

A gesture which aroused the recognition of the Prime Minister towards the economic operators of our country.

“I extend to you the thanks of the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, and of the entire Government. This gesture is for peace to reign, so that business can prosper. In a well-run state, when you give to the state, you give to yourself,” he said.

Then, he seized the opportunity of this gesture to ask businessmen and women to help the Government to fight against corruption, which is an obstacle to the development of business.

“Corruption contributes to the promotion of mediocrity rather than meritocracy. As you know, it is generally businessmen who are the initiators of corruption, while civil servants are much more passive. For the State to be well managed, help us to fight against corruption. We know you are nationalistic,” he said.

“I encourage you to even more nationalism and patriotism, because by building Burkina Faso, you are building for yourselves. It is the safest investment, while elsewhere it is not safe. This is what I am committing you to so that we can build our country so that it shines in the concert of nations, ”he continued.

In his closing message for CODESP 2023, the Prime Minister said that the work of this meeting made it possible to propose possible solutions to meet the multiple challenges related to land and which negatively impact productive investment.

“We are all unanimous that the various land issues, specifically speculation, the procedures relating to mobilization and securing as well as the issuance of deeds limit the impact of the numerous efforts made by the Government to facilitate private investment in our country. In this respect, it becomes more than necessary to find and implement, with the involvement of all land management stakeholders, the most appropriate solutions,” he said.

In addition, he promised that the relevant proposals resulting from this meeting will be translated into concrete actions through an action plan which will be adopted by the National Steering Committee of CODESP, of which he chairs.

“The implementation of this action plan will undoubtedly contribute to the achievement of the development objectives pursued by my Government, in particular through the strengthening of good governance and the continuous improvement of the business environment”, said he added.

The president of the CCI-BF, Mahamadi Savadogo, expressed his sincere thanks and those of the private sector to the Prime Minister and the members of the Government for the spirit of constructive dialogue that characterized this meeting.

Moreover, he reassured the Government of the commitment of the private sector to fully play its role in the implementation of the recommendations made.

Already, with regard to the conclusions of the study carried out on the theme of this edition, he has, on behalf of the Bureau and consular elected officials, engaged the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Burkina Faso on two points.

This concerns the development and servicing of the various activities zone of Bobo-Dioulasso and the financing of the feasibility study for the creation of a one-stop shop for property development under the aegis of the Ministry in housing load.
