Tiébélé Commune Celebrates Excellence in Primary Education with Third Annual Merit Award Ceremony

Pô – On October 12, 2023, Tiébélé hosted its third consecutive merit award ceremony to recognize and encourage the best students, teachers, and education stakeholders in the Municipality of Tiébélé. The event was presided over by Sanfiénalé Joseph Sirima, the secretary general of Nahouri province.

According to a new release by Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was an initiative of Esaïe Tagnabou, a customs declarant and native of Tiébélé.

The ceremony was conducted under the theme “Recognition of merit: a springboard for quality education in the service of the peace effort.” Sibi Albert Yaméogo, the inspector and head of the basic education district of Tiébélé, stated that the event serves as a platform for the educational community to review the educational activities in schools. He further indicated that for this session, 1,503 candidates from the municipality participated, with 1,313 being admitted—an admission rate of 88.37%, an increase from 80.02% in 2022.

In this year’s ceremony, the best teacher in the Certificate of Basic Education (CEB) category was Ms. Ouélé/Yaméogo Geneviève from the Doulnia Kassora school, who achieved a 100% admission rate with all 63 of her students being admitted. Similarly, Iboté Youl from Tiébélé School B also achieved a 100% admission rate, with all 68 of his students being admitted. The best female student was Ilboudo A. Graciela from Tiébélé A school, who scored 151 points, while the best male student was Bakoeboung David Batiam from Tiébélé B school, who scored 150 points.

Teachers and students ranked from 2nd to 5th were also honored with various awards, including school kits, bicycles, and computers. The two top-performing teachers, Youl Iboté and Ouélé/Yaméogo Geneviève, received motorcycles as part of their rewards.

In closing remarks, the prefect and president of the special delegation of Tiébélé, along with the ceremony’s godfather Samuel Tahoura—also a customs declarant and native of Tiébélé—congratulated all participants. They emphasized the hard work and dedication that led to these exemplary results, which placed the CEB of Tiébélé among the best in the province. Both officials also extended their thoughts to internally displaced populations and stressed the importance of communal harmony. Samuel Tahoura pledged his support for the next edition of the ceremony.
