Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias’ statement upon arrival at the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) (Luxembourg 17.10.2022)

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias’ statement upon arrival at the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) (Luxembourg 17.10.2022)Today in the Council we will have the opportunity to hold a new discussion on the situation in Ukraine during this phase of addressing the Russian invasion. For me, this is extremely important, as I hope that tomorrow I will be able to travel to Kiev.

Aside from that, we will discuss the Agreement between Israel and Lebanon, an agreement on maritime zones that is extremely important, another successful example of peaceful settlement of such disputes in the Mediterranean.

I will also have the opportunity to brief the Council on the so-called “memorandum” signed between the government of Tripoli (GNU) and Turkey for the exploitation of resources from these maritime zones. A “memorandum” which creates additional risks for security and stability in the Mediterranean.
