Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Discusses Sudan Crisis with AU High-Level Panel


Addis Ababa – In a pivotal meeting today, Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Taye Atske Selassie, sat down with the African Union’s (AU) high-level panel on the Resolution of the Conflict in Sudan. The session aimed to advance efforts towards a peaceful settlement in the troubled region.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, the panel, led by Muhammad Ibn Chambas and convened by the AU’s Peace and Security Council, is tasked with forging a lasting resolution to Sudan’s ongoing crisis. During the meeting, the panel shared insights from its recent shuttle diplomacy missions and consultations. Foreign Minister Taye underscored the importance of a Sudanese-owned and AU-led peace process that is inclusive and addresses the crisis comprehensively. He highlighted the urgent need to focus on the grave situation resulting from the conflict, including significant internal displacement and refugee flows, marking it as a critical concern.



Minister Taye affirmed Ethiopia’s support for the AU High-Level Panel on Sudan, expressing confidence in the African-led initiative’s effectiveness. He also called on the international community and regional stakeholders to rally behind the panel’s efforts. Muhammad Ibn Chambas, in turn, emphasized Ethiopia’s vital role in contributing to peace efforts in Sudan, indicating the importance of continued and robust support from the country.
