Diversification of energy sources in Burkina Faso: Experts discuss nuclear power

The Chief of Staff of the Minister in charge of energy, Yaya Sankara, chaired this Thursday, October 12, 2023 in Ouagadougou, an exchange meeting between the prospecting committee for the development of nuclear power plants in Burkina Faso and the former Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), Dr. Lassina Zerbo.

This meeting to share experiences on nuclear power energy is an activity of the Directorate General of Energy (DGE) whose objective is to mark the ground for the successful implementation of the nuclear program in Burkina Faso.

It is a response to the dynamic created by the government with a view to the implementation of a nuclear power program for the development of nuclear power plants in Burkina Faso.

And according to Dr Lassina Zerbo ‘Burkina must not remain on the sidelines of nuclear power, which has a certain advantage not only for the average citizen but also for economic
and industrial development in which electrical energy remains a major challenge to overcome’.

And to add that ‘in all sectors of activity such as agriculture, livestock, medicine, energy, etc. nuclear power remains an essential solution.’

During these discussions, the aim is to determine the prerequisites for the implementation of nuclear power plants, to identify the technical, legal and environmental constraints and to propose solutions for the efficient implementation of nuclear power plants in the country. of men of integrity.

Therefore, the Director of Cabinet of the Minister in charge of energy, Yaya Sankara hoped that this sharing of experiences between experts would enable a solid basis to be established for this nuclear power program in order to meet the challenge of supply quality energy accessible to all.
