Tanghin Cleans Up: Golden Team Association Leads Market Sanitation Effort During Sougr-Nooma Festival

TANGHIN, Burkina Faso – On Friday, the Golden Team association spearheaded a sanitation initiative at the Arb-Yaar market in Tanghin, coinciding with the local Sougr-Nooma festival scheduled for April 26-27, 2024. The event was part of a broader clean city project launched by the government.

According to Burkina Information Agency, president of the Golden Team association, the cleanup was a proactive measure by the cultural group to enhance health conditions at the market. The association’s secretary general, Hamidou Sawadogo, mentioned that the sanitation day was integrated into the Sougr-Nooma festival’s activities, emphasizing community health and eco-citizenship. The festival’s sponsor, Hervé Yonli, highlighted the importance of the market as a hub for diverse goods, which underscored the need for such health-focused actions.

The president of the Management Committee of Arb-Yaar market expressed gratitude towards the association and its partner, African Initiative, for providing essential equipment for the cleanup. Bintou Bougma/Kaboré, a local seamstress, has committed to maintaining cleanliness in the market, with plans to organize cleaning every six months alongside other market women.

Aziz Sawadogo also noted that the Golden Team association is a cultural group that promotes unity through dance and theater among various ethnic groups to combat stigmatization in Burkina Faso. He added that the Sougr-Nooma festival is aimed at fostering peace and unity among different communities during a period of increased insecurity in the country.

The Golden Team association plans to extend their sanitation efforts to the Bénégo and Saaba markets following their work at the Arb-Yaar market.
