Bobo-Dioulasso Hosts Opening of 21st National Culture Week

Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso – The 21st edition of the National Culture Week (SNC) kicked off on Saturday evening with a ceremonial gong sounding by Captain Ibrahim Traoré at the Sangoulé Lamizana stadium. This marks the commencement of a week-long celebration of Burkinabè culture.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Captain Traoré, the President of the Transition and Head of State, was received with a significant turnout at the stadium. His arrival was under military escort, and he acknowledged the assembled crowds from a pick-up truck, circling the track to salute attendees from Bobo-Dioulasso, other regions of Burkina Faso, and neighboring countries. The event proceeded with performances by choreographic troupes Oumar Démé and Yaya Sanou, showcasing the cultural ties within the Alliance of Sahel States, which includes Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.

The Minister of State, Minister of Communication, Arts and Tourism, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, delivered the opening remarks on behalf of President Traoré. He emphasized the enduring popularity and significance of the National Culture Week, which has been a pivotal event since its inception in 1983. Ouédraogo noted the festival’s role in fostering unity, promoting creativity, and providing a platform for the diverse cultural expressions of Burkina Faso.

The SNC, which runs from April 27 to May 4, continues to attract a wide audience and strengthen its reputation as a key cultural event in the West African region.
