Ethiopia Expands Air Transport Services with 17 Countries

Ethiopia has successfully negotiated agreements with 17 countries across Africa, North and South America, Europe, and the Middle East to initiate and enhance air transport services. These agreements were finalized during the annual Air Transport Services Negotiation Conference held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

According to Africa News Agency, The agreement encompasses various provisions including the allowance of unlimited flights, broader airline representation, expanded traffic rights, and access to additional destinations. Notably, Ethiopia’s agreements with Nigeria, Ghana, Morocco, Eswatini, Sierra Leone, and Zimbabwe permit unlimited flights. Additionally, agreements with Tanzania, Seychelles, and Gabon enable Ethiopian airlines to operate more flights in these countries.

Furthermore, civil aviation agreements with countries such as Russia, England, Canada, Poland, Finland, Kuwait, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Suriname are geared towards expanding market opportunities by facilitating additional flight loops. These agreements are expected to significantly benefit Ethiopia’s aviation industry, with the conference in Saudi Arabia seeing participation from 97 countries.

In a related development, Ethiopian Airlines has resumed its flights to Madrid, Spain, after a three-and-a-half-year hiatus, now operating four flights a week to the European destination.
