Muslim Leaders Urge Kenyans To Maintain Peace During Ramadhan

Islamic clerics in Tharaka Nithi County have called upon residents to maintain peace especially during the holy month of Ramadan. Speaking to the media in Chuka, the area Jamia Mosque Imam Abdinasir Mugambi said that the Azimio la Umoja demonstrations are posing a major blow to various sectors in the country including businesses. ‘We ask Kenyans to remain peaceful during this holy month of Ramadhan,’ he said. The Imam noted that Ramadhan is a time to remember the less fortunate in the society through giving food and clothes. The leaders called on the Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga to call off the demonstrations for the sake of the country. Imam Mugambi further asked leaders to find a solution to end the protests in order for the country to resume to normalcy. ‘The demonstrations will affect Ramadhan, we are not supposed to be involved in any acts of violence, it is a season for love and peace,’ he said. Akida Rajab a Muslim leader at the mosque, echoed the Imam’s words and urged Kenyans to uphold peace during this holy month. Rajab said demos have caused destruction and theft of people’s property and asked political leaders to end the protests. The leaders at the same time asked the government to lower food prices which they lamented have recently sky-rocketed to ease the cost of living for Kenyans.
