Twelve Githunguri Primary Schools Receive Water Tanks to Improve Hygiene and Education

Githunguri — Twelve primary schools in the Githunguri constituencies of Kiambu County have been provided with water tanks through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF).

According to Kenya News Agency, each school received two water tanks, each with a 10,000-litre capacity, aiming to enhance hygiene and allow students to focus on their studies.

Wamuchomba spoke at the donation ceremony held at the Githunguri sub-county commissioner’s office grounds. She highlighted the challenges of water supply and sanitation in rural schools in Kiambu County, noting that the lack of water sources often forces students to spend valuable class time in search of water. The MP emphasized the necessity of the tanks and urged teachers to utilize them, thereby eliminating the need to send students to fetch water during class time.

Wamuchomba also announced future plans to ensure that all public schools in the constituency have water tanks for storage. Additionally, she launched a welfare Community-Based Organization (CBO) aimed at supporting community health promoters (CHPs) in the sub-county. Wamuchomba deposited Sh200,000 into the CBO to allow the 255 CHPs to take out loans at lower interest rates.

In another initiative funded by the NGCDF, Wamuchomba unveiled a dairy training course. The free program focuses on cow management and dairy formulation, and it has already registered 100 local farmers. According to the MP, the dairy sector is significant in Githunguri sub-county, with up to Sh5 billion circulating monthly from milk sales alone.
