Terrorists Kill 14 Worshipers in Mosque Attack in Natiaboani

GOURMA — In a violent backlash following a repelled attack by military forces, terrorists assassinated 14 individuals, including a spiritual leader, inside a mosque in the village of Natiaboani, located 35 km from Fada N’Gourma.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the attackers, having been thwarted by the military detachment and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP) in their initial assault, targeted the village mosque in a heinous act of violence. The FIAB, in a press release, condemned the attacks as “vile and cowardly,” resulting in the deaths of several people, including the mosque’s imam, with 12 fatalities reported at the scene.

Security sources highlighted that the swift response involving air support and the valiant efforts of the VDP and the Armed Defense and Security Forces (FDS) succeeded in neutralizing several dozen terrorists subsequent to their atrocious crime. In the wake of this tragedy, the FIAB expressed its unwavering support for all combatants on the front lines and the nation’s leadership.

This incident follows a separate attack disclosed by the bishop of Dori, Laurent B. Dabiré, which resulted in the assassination of at least fifteen Catholic faithful in an Essakane-Village church, located in the Sahel region, further underscoring the escalating violence in the area.
