Somali Women Journalists Honored for GBV Storytelling

Mogadishu – The Somali Women Journalists Rights Association (SOWJRA) has recognized three female journalists for their exceptional storytelling during the 16-day activism campaign against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) against women. The award ceremony was held in Mogadishu, with notable attendees including Mr. Abdullahi Hayir Duale, the Director General of the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, along with representatives from the Somali Women Association, Benadir Female Journalists, and SOWJRA leadership.

According to Somali National News Agency, the Director General of Somalia’s Ministry of Information, the event was also a platform to express gratitude to Slovak Aid for funding the digital training on storytelling and its continuous support to female journalists in Somalia. The winners of the GBV storytelling contest were announced by trainer Abdullahi Mohamed Hassan Black. Su’ad Abdi Aziz Tahir, Fartum Ahmed Muse, and Safa Osman Abulle were awarded the top three positions, respectively.

Leyla Adeed Osman, the Executive Director of SOWJRA, commended the female journalists for their significant improvements during the training and their impactful contributions to the 16-day campaign against violence towards women. She reaffirmed SOWJRA’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the skills and capacities of Somali women journalists.
