Man found dead with gunshot wound at Mangetti

A 38-year-old man believed to be a member of the Namibian Defence Force’s (NDF) Special Forces was on Tuesday reportedly found dead with a gunshot wound to the head, in the Mangetti National Park, in Kavango West Region. The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in its daily crime report on Wednesday alleged that the deceased might have committed suicide. He has been identified as Julius Boysen Jamara who held the rank of Corporal attached to Anti-poaching operations in the park. According to the police, the body of the deceased was discovered by his colleagues that were in search for him after he allegedly reported on duty on Sunday at around 08h00 in the morning and left the camp armed with an AK47 rifle on foot and never returned. A team comprising of the Anti-poaching unit and the NamPol started a search and found the deceased remains including a service rifle (AK47), his cellphone, and a spent cartridge at the scene. His remains were transported to the Rundu State Hospital mortuary for an autopsy. His next of kin were informed and police investigations into the matter continue.
