Nganate urges farmers to grasp new farming methods

Omaheke Region Governor Pijoo Nganate on Tuesday urged farmers in the region to embrace new farming methods in order to contribute to the overall well-being of their society.

Addressing farmers and entrepreneurs at a two-day ‘Be-a-Business Support Hub’ workshop here, Nganate said farmers need to think towards the future as agri-businesses and acquaint themselves with agricultural technologies, agricultural processing and all agricultural processes for them to become export-ready.

The workshop hosted by the Namibian Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) at Gobabis is designed to assist entrepreneurs in starting to build and grow their businesses successfully.

“We need to build an ecosystem for our region and country. We have great potential to grow and give our children a better future. We need to take up those opportunities to improve ourselves and ensure we are ready for growth and change. We simply need to innovate,” the governor said.

He added that the youth should be involved in such initiatives, to get exposure in cultivating their skills and talents in the agriculture sector, noting that the initiative is the start of a great and lasting relationship to build on shared values and a belief in the potential business growth.

He further indicated that those who are attending the workshop are demonstrating farmers’ commitment to being part of innovation, creating opportunities, building agribusinesses and empowering the young minds that will shape their future.

“I am confident that this initiative will be able to bring prosperity to our Omaheke Region. I urge every one of you to seize this opportunity, for you to make the most of the knowledge shared, and forge meaningful connections with the entrepreneurial community,” Nganate said.

The regional governor furthermore challenged all attendees to envision not just profitable ventures but also address societal challenges, create employment and contribute to the overall well-being of their communities.

The workshop will cover topics such as research for value addition in the agricultural sector, current economic development projects in the region and horticulture products and demands in the market among other topics.
