Narok Governor Urges Protection of Children from Harmful Practices During Holidays

Narok, Kenya – Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu has called on parents and elders to protect children, particularly girls, from retrogressive cultural practices during the long school holiday. Addressing a gathering at a traditional Manyattaa in Rotian area, Narok North Sub County, the Governor emphasized the need for guidance and counseling for the youth.

According to Kenya News Agency, Ntutu highlighted the prevalent issues of early marriages, teenage pregnancies, and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Narok County, urging the community to intervene and curb these trends. “We are asking the parents to take their parental role of guiding their children, especially the girl child, this long holiday,” he said, noting the negative impact of these practices on school performance.

The Governor also addressed the problem of livestock theft by young morans, calling for an end to such practices. He encouraged the youth to engage in constructive activities like farming and business ventures for sustainable income.

Narok North Member of Parliament Ms. Agnes Pareyio, who accompanied Governor Ntutu, appealed to the society to support and protect the girl child, enabling her to pursue education and leadership opportunities. “Let us embrace our girls and support them to have a decent future so that she can achieve her dreams,” Pareyio stated, advocating for gender equality and the empowerment of young girls.
