Community assistance applauded after Waterval Police nabbed four suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms

Four suspects aged between 25 and 38 were arrested for alleged possession of unlicensed firearms in Waterval outside Makhado on Thursday, 06 July 2023 at about 12:00.

The Police received a tip-off from the community about a suspicious Hyundai i35 motor vehicle with four occupants, armed with firearms and driving around Elim Mall and nearby shopping centres. They reacted swiftly and followed the information. The vehicle fitting the description was spotted along the D4 road. It was stopped and searched.

Police found three firearms, two unlicensed and one licensed firearm belonging to the driver. A total of 45 rounds of ammunition were also seized.

“We applaud the residents of Waterval for trusting SAPS members with sensitive information which led to the arrest. The quick response of the members is also commendable,” concluded Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Waterval Magistrate’s Court on Monday 10 July 2023, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
