Burkina Faso Opens Doors to Neighboring Nations for Mining Residue Processing

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – In a move towards regional collaboration, President Ibrahim Traoré has extended an invitation to neighboring West and Central African countries to process their mining residues in Burkina Faso. This invitation coincides with the inauguration of the country’s new mining residue processing plant in Ouagadougou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, during the commissioning ceremony of the Golden Hand plant in the Kossodo industrial zone, he urged neighboring states to utilize Burkina Faso’s newly developed technology for treating mining residues. The President emphasized the significance of this facility, which showcases equipment entirely designed and built by Burkinabè artisans, as a testament to the nation’s growing technological capabilities and sovereignty in resource management.

Captain Ibrahim Traoré expressed his enthusiasm about this development, highlighting it as a step forward in controlling and leveraging Burkina Faso’s natural resources. The Golden Hand plant, launched on Tuesday morning, represents a critical advancement in the country’s mining sector. Previously, many mining companies in Burkina Faso had to send hundreds of tons of residues abroad for processing, often facing risks of fraud.

By offering these services domestically and extending them to neighboring countries, Burkina Faso not only asserts its technological prowess but also fosters regional cooperation in the mining industry, potentially leading to greater economic and environmental efficiencies.
