SAPS members arrest suspects for drug related crimes

Efforts to rid communities of illegal drugs through the effective application of partnership between the SAPS and communities yielded success when police members arrested suspects for the possession of drugs.

On Friday, 15 September 2023 at approximately 13:30, members of Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit, followed up on information, regarding the possible storage of narcotics, at a premises in Pagoda Street, Soralia Village, Muizenberg. Upon arrival at the property they conducted a search and came across a large quantity of drugs which included 6240 capsules of dagga, four small packets of cocaine, nine ecstasy tablets, two small packets of rocks and a quantity of magic mushrooms. The members also discovered and confiscated an assortment of ammunition. The owner of the property, a 53-year-old male, was arrested and detained on charges of possession of, and dealing in drugs and possession of ammunition. The suspect will appear in the Muizenberg Magistrates court on Monday, 18 September 2023 on the mentioned charges.

In an unrelated matter on Friday, 15 September 2023 at about 18:45, members of Operation Restore deployed in Delft were doing stop and searches and approached a group of men. When these men saw SAPS members they scattered but one of them was apprehended and searched and found to be in possession of 18 halve mandrax tablets and three full mandrax tablets. The 38-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of possession of drugs and once charged he will make his appearance in court.

On Friday, 15 September 2023 at approximately 18:45, Bredasdorp Crime Prevention unit members were conducting cross-border operation at Napier when they received information that a Taxi transporting drugs is traveling from Caledon to Napier. The taxi was spotted, stopped and searched and 1010 mandrax tablets valued at R40 000 were found. A 52-year-old male was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs, and will appear in the Bredasdorp Magistrate court on Monday, 18 September 2023 on the mentioned charges.
