Bobo-Dioulasso Initiates Construction of Military Uniform Factory

Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso – Saturday marked a significant step forward in Burkina Faso’s industrial sector with the groundbreaking ceremony for a new textile factory, set to manufacture uniforms for the National Armed Forces. The event was led by Captain Ibrahim Traore, the President of the Transition and Head of State.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the TEXFORCES-BF factory, situated in Logofoursso on the outskirts of Bobo-Dioulasso along the Orodara road, aims to meet the growing demands for military apparel amid increasing security challenges in the region. This initiative is part of a broader move towards industrialization intended to leverage local resources, specifically Burkinabè cotton, for domestic production.

The factory will focus on processing local cotton to produce garments for the Defense and Security Forces and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP). This shift to local manufacturing is expected to reduce Burkina Faso’s reliance on international suppliers for military clothing, which has historically involved substantial expenditures.

The Minister in charge of Trade, Serge Gnaniodem Poda, highlighted the economic implications of this project, noting that it represents a union of efforts towards enhancing national economic growth and job creation while maintaining cultural identity. The construction of the TEXFORCES-BF, spanning an area of 9 hectares and costing 15 billion FCFA, will include facilities for spinning, weaving, manufacturing, and other necessary infrastructural elements such as an administrative building and an infirmary.
