Sh50 Million Free Secondary Education Bursary Kitty For Students Launched

Ijara Member of Parliament Mr. Abdi Ali Sheikhow launched a Sh50 million free secondary education bursary kitty for needy students in Ijara and Hulugho Sub Counties in Garissa County. Speaking during the occassion held at Yussuf Haji Secondary school in Masalani Town, the MP said he will prioritise raising of education standards through paying tuition for needy students in the constituency to improve literacy rates and ensure majority students do not pester their parents who have fallen on hard times struggling to pay fees because of ongoing drought. Sheikhow said he will ensure free secondary education for residents is met through NG-CDF before tackling other pressing social needs like health services and infrastructure development besides demand for agricultural extension and veterinary services among the myriad of problems facing his constituents. The legislator said he emphasized on education first because of the huge demand for not only secondary education but tertiary and university education as well. The programme was the first of its kind since NG-CDF kitty was enacted into law way back in 2010. Ijara Deputy County Commissioner Willy Cheboi and other senior government officers, Garissa Deputy Governor Abdi Dagane and Garissa Members of County Assembly among others, attended the meeting.
