Kerugoya ECDE Centers to Receive School Feeding Program; 15,000 Pupils Expected to Benefit

Kerugoya—The County Government of Kirinyaga has initiated a school feeding program for all Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers in Kerugoya. The program will benefit approximately 15,000 pre-primary school pupils across 20 wards in the county.

According to a new release by Kenya News Agency, County Executive Committee Member (CEC) for Education, James Mutugi, announced the program alongside other future educational plans. Mutugi stated that 15 state-of-the-art ECDE classrooms are slated for construction by the end of the 2023-24 fiscal year. Additionally, the department has allocated a total of Sh5 million for the implementation of digital learning in pilot centers.

The education committee, chaired by Murinduko Ward MCA Charles Nyamu, also reported that 34,799 students had benefited from a Sh108 million bursary fund. This includes 3017 university students, 4209 tertiary institution students, and 27,573 secondary school students. The committee urged the timely disbursement of these funds to prevent any educational interruptions. In response to a query about delays in establishing a vocational center for persons with disabilities, the CEC said plans are currently underway by the Department of Gender and a modern dormitory has been built for this purpose.
