Ouahigouya to Host “FILGA d’OR” Celebrating Cultural and Sporting Efforts in Northern Burkina Faso

OUAHIGOUYA – The city of Ouahigouya is gearing up for the first edition of the “FILGA d’OR”, a cultural event designed to honor the contributions of individuals and organizations in cultural and sporting sectors in Northern Burkina Faso. This initiative, organized by the Association Art au Service du Développement (AASD) in collaboration with the Wendaabo event group, was announced during a media meeting held on November 16, 2023.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the purpose of this meeting was to inform the press and the people of the Northern region about the upcoming “FILGA d’OR”, a regional cultural event. The Provincial Director of Culture of Yatenga, Valentin Lili, commended the promoters for creating an opportunity to acknowledge and thank both known and anonymous individuals who have significantly contributed to promoting cultural and sporting activities in the region.

Issaka T. Savadogo, speaking on behalf of the promoting group, emphasized that despite challenging security situations, there are many who continue to support and believe in the power of culture. The FILGA d’OR 2023 aims to pay tribute to those who have offered moral, material, and financial support to cultural activities. The event will recognize excellence across several categories, including best cultural event, tourist establishment, entertainment space, sports area, cultural promoter, school cultural event, sports center, and restaurant. The event, scheduled for December 16, 2023, will also include FILGAs of honor and tribute, particularly glorifying personalities from the region for their commitment to cultural matters. A committee and jury comprising regional cultural actors, municipal officials, press, and cultural and sports agents, have been established to oversee the awards.
