Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias to visit Rwanda (4-5.11.2021)

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, will travel to Rwanda this evening, where he is expected to meet with the President of the country, Paul Kagame, as well as with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Vincent Biruta.

Talks will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Greece and Rwanda in areas of common interest.

In the context of advancing bilateral economic cooperation and promoting the outward-looking orientation of Greek investment activities, during the expanded talks between the two delegations there will be a presentation of investment opportunities in Rwanda by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Development Board, Zephanie Niyonkuru, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Patricie Uwase.

The signing of a “Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda” has also been scheduled.

In the course of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias’ visit, a delivery of 330,000 vaccines to help Rwanda address the COVID-19 pandemic will take place. It is noted that last September Greece donated another 200,000 vaccines.

During his stay in Rwanda, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will visit and lay a wreath at the Kigali Genocide Μemorial.

This visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Rwanda, which is his first visit to the region, signals a substantial upgrading of Greek presence in sub-Saharan Africa.
