Machakos Government Provides Ramadan Relief to Needy Muslim Families

MACHAKOS—In a significant move to support its Muslim population during the holy month of Ramadan, the Machakos government has distributed essential food supplies to over 10,000 needy individuals.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Cabinet Secretary for Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALS), this initiative targets distributing the relief packages through 78 mosques across the county, addressing the critical needs of the community during this period of fasting.

The relief effort in Machakos is part of a broader governmental initiative extending to 22 counties recognized for their substantial Muslim demographics. The assortment of distributed items includes 160 bags of rice, 400 bags of beans, and essential provisions like sardine fish, pasta, and cooking oil, aimed at supporting families in need throughout Ramadan.

Furthermore, Malonza highlighted the government’s broader commitment to the economic empowerment of the Muslim community, encouraging participation in entrepreneurial activities and tapping into opportunities in the emerging Konza City technopolis. She also detailed the government’s investment in local infrastructure, specifically a Sh29.16 million allocation for water projects to improve resource distribution in Machakos.

Echoing the theme of empowerment, Veronica Nduva, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Performance and Delivery Management, advocated for educational advancement within the community, particularly encouraging ICT skill development through Machakos University and Konza technopolis. Nduva emphasized the potential for entrepreneurship and digital engagement, leveraging public Wi-Fi for starting online businesses and skill enhancement.

The event saw the participation of several key regional and national figures, including Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko, Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, and Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi, marking a collaborative effort between county and national government officials to support the local Muslim population during a pivotal time of year.
