Swift response to a Knysna business robbery results in arrest of five suspects

WESTERN CAPE – The swift response by various police units to a business robbery perpetrated in Knysna earlier this week yielded excellent results with the arrest of five suspects, three in Knysna and two in Worcester respectively.

Reports available suggest that on Tuesday, 13 June 2023 at about 11:45 Knysna police responded to a business robbery perpetrated at a business in Nelson Street, Knysna where an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen. A team consisting of Knysna Crime Prevention unit, Knysna detectives, Tsitsikamma K9 unit and a local security company were immediately assembled which commenced with a search for the perpetrators. Investigation took the team to Concordia in Knysna where a Volkswagen Jetta believed to be one of the getaway vehicles was found. The team proceeded to a liquor outlet in the immediate vicinity and apprehended two men. A search of the pair and surroundings ensued resulting in the recovery of an undisclosed amount of cash. Police seized the vehicle and confiscated the cash.

Further information led the investigation team to Worcester where two more suspects were tracked down on Wednesday, 14 June 2023. One more suspect also positively linked to the robbery was arrested in Knysna earlier today 15 June 2023.

Two of the suspects aged 28 and 30, arrested in Knysna, already made their first court appearance in the Knysna Magistrates’ court on Thursday, 15 June 2023. The pair remain in custody and the case was postponed to 21 June 2023 for a formal bail application.

The remaining three suspects aged between 37 and 45, are still in police custody and will appear in court once they have been charged.

The investigation into the robbery continues.

Western Cape police management commended those involved with the swift response which led to the arrest and recovery of the stolen cash.
