ONDCCE calls for dissolution of Ettahrir party, describing it as threat to State and people’s future

The National Observatory for the Defence of the Civilian Nature of the State (ONDCCE) accused the Ettahrir party of being a chapter of a foreign extremist movement that seeks to change the nature of the Tunisian State and to overthrow the Republican regime.

The observatory, which calls for banning the Ettahrir party, considers that the latter is literally opposed to the principle of a secular civil State in the Muslim world.

The observatory said in a statement on Wednesday, that the slogan brandished by Ettahrir on the occasion of its congress in which it affirms that there is salvation only in the caliphate State, clearly carries a project of conspiracy against the security of the State and is a real threat to its institutions.

The ONDCCE expressed surprise at the silence of the judiciary with regard to the illegal presence of this party.

It also deplored the silence of the government towards a blatant violation of the law organising political parties by allowing this party to exist, as well as suspicious organisations such as the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS).

The observatory cites in this regard, the decree-law No. 87 issued on September 24, 2011 on parties and which stipulates the need for political parties to respect, in their statutes, programmes and activities, the principles of the Republic and ban incitement to violence, hatred, intolerance and discrimination based on religion, gender or region.

The party does not recognise the Tunisian State, its independence and sovereignty, and even less its laws and national colours, regrets the ONDCCE.

It added: “Republican values and human rights, openly disavowed by this party, are, however, major achievements for which Tunisians have sacrificed themselves and that it is our duty today to defend and preserve them.”

The observatory reiterates call to urgently dissolve this party, which is a danger to national security and to the Republic.

In its statement, the observatory also urges the progressive national forces to close ranks, to stand up peacefully and in accordance with the law, against this “imminent danger” that threatens the State and the future of its people.
