Joint Communiqué issued after the Meeting between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Greece and Kenya, Nikos Dendias and Raychelle A. Omamo (Athens, 09.05.2022)

1.    H.E. Amb. Raychelle A. Omamo, EGH, SC, The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, made an Official Visit to the Hellenic Republic from the 6th to 11th May 2022. Amb. Omamo held bilateral consultations with H.E. Nikos Dendias, The Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic.

2.    The visit presented an opportunity to deepen relations between the two States considering that longstanding relations have been based on mutual respect and focus on intensifying the scope of bilateral ties, including in trade and investments.

3.    The main highlight of the visit was the execution of a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of Diplomatic Training. The principals expressed confidence that the framework developed through execution of the MOU signifies their States’ commitment to cooperate in the training of diplomatic personnel and the exchange of information and publications.

4.    The principals thanked the technical teams for their dedication in the negotiation and conclusion of the MOU and wished them success in implementation of the thematic areas envisaged therein, within the set timelines.

5.    The principals re-affirmed their commitment to further developing and strengthening cordial relations by concluding negotiation of bilateral instruments in the following areas:

a.    Agriculture
b.    Tourism
c.    Sports
d.    Energy
e.    Maritime Affairs.

6.    The principals agreed on the need to fast track the hosting of a Joint Ministerial Committee (JMC), which would provide a platform for the two States to negotiate and finalize the pending agreements.

7.    Amb. Omamo thanked her counterpart, Nikos Dendias, for the warm welcome and gracious hospitality extended to her and her delegation, and extended an invitation to the Republic of Kenya for the next round of bilateral discussions.
