Minister Simmers to hand over houses in Golden Valley, George and conduct site visit at Qolweni Phase 3A project

Western Cape Minister of Human Settlements, Tertuis Simmers will hand over completed houses to deserving and qualifying beneficiaries in the Golden Valley Housing Project in Blanco, George. This will be followed by a site visit to the Qolweni Phase 3A 169 project in Plettenberg Bay.

The Golden Valley project commenced in 2019 has a budget allocation of over R 28,4 million. It is estimated to yield 133 housing opportunities by the end of November 2021.

Minister Simmers said: “I’m looking forward to handing over these completed units, as it will significantly improve the lives of these residents, while also ensuring that they can now live in dignity. I am also looking forward to visiting and engaging those that have already taken occupancy of their units and to ascertain how they have settled into their new homes.”

The Qolweni Phase 3A 169 project was handed over to the Western Cape Department of Human Settlements (WCDoHS) by the Bitou Municipality on 18 June 2021. Since then, it has continued to make steady progress. The project has a budget of R33,5 million, which excludes professional fees. It is envisaged to be completed during the 2022/23 financial year.

Simmers added: “This visit serves to obtain the latest information regarding the project, as it is critical for it to remain on track. It is also part of our process to being transparent, so that the broader community is kept abreast of what is transpiring in this development. We want to ensure that no further delays are experienced in this development, and that the most vulnerable in this community are ultimately assisted.”
