Burkina: Religion, security situation and media on the menu of the newspapers

This Wednesday’s Burkinabè dailies deal with the celebration of the Assumption, the suspension of Radio Oméga and the evolution of the security situation in Burkina Faso.

The public daily Sidwaya mentions on its front page: “Fight against terrorism: The national police and the VDP neutralize a dozen terrorists in the Nayala”.

According to an army statement published by the newspaper, the 5th Group of Mobile Intervention Units (GUMI) of the National Police and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) in the locality of Gossina (Nayala) ambushed a convoy of terrorists in the Tarba area.

He adds that this ambush made it possible to neutralize a dozen terrorists and recover a lot of equipment including weapons, ammunition, six motorcycles, a tricycle, a bicycle and various other equipment.

According to the press release, no damage was recorded on the side of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS).

On the same subject, the private daily L’Observateur Paalga adds that the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces congratulated the FDS for this victorious action.

L’Express du Faso, a private daily published in Bobo Dioulasso, devotes its headline to this news, displaying: “Zone of Tarba in the Nayala: A dozen terrorists neutralized by the national police”.

The Bobolais newspaper specifies that the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces urged all the units to maintain this spirit of initiative which makes it possible to overcome armed terrorist groups.

From another angle, the dean of private dailies in Burkina Faso, L’Observateur Paalga, has on its front page: “Suspension of Omega: Radio seizes the Council of State”.

According to the newspaper, the management of Omega media informs the public that the journalist and editor-in-chief Abdoul Fhatave Tiemtoré, author of the interview with the adviser to the ousted Nigerien president, Mohamed Bazoum, which resulted in the suspension of the antennas of the radio has was the subject of a summons to state security last Friday.

The newspaper indicates that the Catholic faithful from different localities of Burkina Faso celebrated, yesterday Tuesday at the martial sanctuary Notre Dame de Yagma, the feast of the Assumption reflecting the ascent of the Virgin Mary to heaven under the theme “My soul exalts the Lord “.

According to him, three events marked the commemoration of August 15, 2023, namely the feast of the Assumption, the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the priestly life of Cardinal Philippe Ouédraogo and that of various jubilees and anniversaries of birth, marriage, baptism and patronal feast.

The daily Le Pays, for its part, informs that Cardinal Philippe Ouédraogo has shown his solidarity to internally displaced persons (IDPs) by offering them food kits and a financial envelope.
