Humanitarian: Cash transfer suspended in the Centre-North

In a letter dated March 15, 2023 addressed to the heads of structures and agencies operating in the Centre-North, the governor of the said region suspended cash transfers to internally displaced persons in its territorial jurisdiction.

Evoking “certain requirements”, Colonel-Major Zoewendmanego Blaise Ouédraogo hopes that a “new consensus on this mode of assistance” will be found.

In the difficult security context marked by the massive displacement of populations to the main cities of the region, humanitarian actors have initiated cash transfers as a form of assistance to the most vulnerable.

According to conasur, 38.89% of the 1 million 938 thousand 792 IDPs registered as of January 31, 2023 at the national level, expressed a priority need for cash.

During this same period and according to the same source, the Centre-Nord, with 486 thousand 637 IDPs or 25.1% of the national workforce, was ranked as the second region hosting the most IDPs after the Sahel.
