Bungoma Immigration Office Expansion Announced by Government to Improve Passport Services

BUNGOMA, Kenya — The government plans to expand the Immigration office in Bungoma South Sub-County, part of Bungoma County, aiming to streamline the process of obtaining passports, as stated by the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Administration, Kithure Kindiki. During a visit to the local Immigration Department Offices, Kindiki outlined the government’s commitment to renovating the facility and enhancing its operational capacity by staffing additional immigration officers and supplying necessary equipment.

According to Kenya News Agency, the expansion and rehabilitation efforts are set to be completed by June this year. Kindiki emphasized the government’s acknowledgment of the current delays in passport processing and assured residents that actions are being taken to expedite services, thereby making it simpler and quicker for them to acquire travel documents.

The Cabinet Secretary also touched on national security concerns, indicating that comprehensive strategies are in place to ensure public safety and fight against narcotics and illicit substances. Kindiki disclosed ongoing efforts to dismantle the production and distribution of harmful alcoholic beverages and drugs, highlighting the impact of substance abuse on the country’s workforce.

Moreover, Kindiki announced a policy requiring the rotation of police officers who have been stationed at a single location for more than three years, aiming to enhance security measures across the nation. He issued a stern warning to law enforcement officers involved in the sale of alcohol, mandating the closure of such businesses to avoid conflicts of interest.

Additionally, the government is reinforcing security cooperation with neighboring countries to prevent criminal activities across borders, with special focus on the Lwakhakha point, which is being upgraded to facilitate safer and more efficient border trade between Kenya and Uganda.
