Nanyuki School Alumni Association Donates Sh1 Million for Scholarships

NANYUKI, Kenya – Ten academically gifted yet financially disadvantaged students from Nanyuki School have been granted scholarships following a Sh1 million contribution from the school’s alumni association, aiming to cover their four-year educational expenses.

According to Kenya News Agency, a representative of the alumni, the decision to offer the scholarships was driven by the growing number of students struggling to afford tuition fees. Mugo shared these remarks during a Thanksgiving event held at the school over the weekend, attended by students, parents, and faculty members. He highlighted the school’s increasing enrollment and the consequent financial strain, underscoring the alumni association’s dedication to support the institution’s needs.

The scholarships were awarded after a thorough selection process conducted by the school’s vetting committee, which aimed to identify and assist the most deserving students. Mugo emphasized the importance of ensuring that the aid reaches those most in need and called for partnerships with parents and benefactors to expand the support to more students in similar situations.

During the same event, Laikipia Deputy Governor Rueben Kamuri expressed the county government’s commitment to enhancing educational standards through partial scholarships for needy students. Kamuri also urged parents to support the school’s efforts towards achieving academic excellence.

Solomon Kipkoech, the Chief Principal of Nanyuki School, reported significant improvements in the school’s performance in the recent Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations. He attributed the success to the collective support from the school’s stakeholders, noting an increase in top grades and the school’s average score compared to the previous year. The school presented 331 candidates for the KCSE in 2023, an increase from 237 candidates in 2022.
