Burkina: The Transitional Legislative Assembly adopts the bill on the protection, safeguarding and enhancement of cultural heritage

The Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT) on Tuesday adopted the bill on the protection, safeguarding and enhancement of cultural heritage in the presence of the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo who affirmed that “culture is the soul and the weapon of a people”.

“Culture is the soul and weapon of a people, so this law on the protection, safeguarding and enhancement of cultural heritage significantly and effectively strengthens the governance of the cultural heritage sector in general” , said the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.

Minister Ouédraogo spoke on Tuesday, in Ouagadougou, during the adoption of the bill on the protection, safeguarding and enhancement of cultural heritage at the ALT.

According to him, this law enshrines many innovations that allow the Ministry of Culture and all the actors involved in the issue of safeguarding and enhancement, to have the necessary tools to secure the material cultural heritage and immaterial, which “constitute our weapon, our identity, our essential value”.

The minister reassured the deputies that the decrees of application will be in accordance with the spirit of this law in order to concretize the common will of all the actors to create the conditions so that we have better governance of our heritage sector. tangible and intangible culture.

“National languages are also part of our intangible cultural heritage and constitute the vehicle of our culture and it is very important to work not only for their preservation but above all for their promotion,” he said.

The minister underlined that provisions have been made to enable all players to promote Burkinabè culture, to ensure transmission, but also to ensure that the elements of our tangible and intangible cultural heritage contribute significantly to making of our country a popular destination for tourists.

Mr. Ouédraogo reassured that his department is working in harmony with the Ministry of National Education and the promotion of national languages for the promotion of Burkinabe culture.

“The dynamic is to ensure that we are proud of our culture and to be proud of one’s culture is to be proud of one’s mother tongue,” he concluded.
