Nigerian Diplomat Engages Nigerien Prime Minister Amid Tensions

Niamey, Niger – In a notable diplomatic engagement this Friday morning, the Nigerian Ambassador to Niger, Sani Usmane, met with Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the ambassador did not make any public statements following the discussion. This meeting comes at a time when relations between Niger and Nigeria have experienced significant strain. Since General Tiani’s ascension to power in Niamey in July 2023, bilateral tensions have escalated, highlighted by Abuja’s unilateral decision to cut off electricity supplies to Niger and threats of military intervention aimed at reinstating the ousted President Bazoum.
