July 25 Harak calls for freezing UGTT funds

The July 25 «Harak,» which backs President Kais Saied, called for freezing the funds and activities of the Tunisian General Labor Union (French: UGTT).

At a press conference Wednesday in Tunis, Harak spokesperson Mahmoud Ben Mabrouk, stressed the need to audit the funds of the UGTT and the nature of all its activities.

This conference is entitled “Need to Freeze UGTT Activities, Bringing the Union’s Corruption to Justice and Supporting the Work of independent company unions.

The Harak stressed that it respects the UGTT’s trade union work, its historical origins and its major contribution to the reform movement in Tunisia.

It however underlined that the labour union has deviated from its primary role of defending the working class.

“The labour organisation union is interfering in political affairs while a large part of Tunisians are not members,” the same source said. .

“Relying on foreign parties is a red line not to be crossed,” he warned, adding that the Harak refuses any manipulation of national sovereignty.

The Harak criticised the interference of General Secretary of the European Trade Unions Confederation Esther Lynch in the internal affairs of the country and the latest arrests.
