The General Labor Inspectorate announced on Monday that it had checked 309,778 workers in 2021 and resolved amicably 2,825 cases of disputes out of a total of 5,104 over the same period.

“The conciliation mission is the mission that allows labor inspectors to resolve amicably the conflicts that bind workers to their employers,” said the Acting Director General of the General Labor Inspectorate, Daouda Ouattara.

Mr. Ouattara specified that his institution handled 5,104 individual labor disputes and was able to reconcile 2,825 cases for the year 2021.

He was speaking Monday in Ouagadougou, during the presentation of the 2021 report of his structure to Prime Minister Apollinaire Kyelem.

According to him, the sums paid to the workers at the end of the conciliation amount to 1 billion 421 million 901 thousand 095 FCFA.

The Acting Director General of the General Labor Inspectorate Daouda Ouattara indicated that the report is divided into three parts.

The first part is devoted to the labor inspection system, the second to human, material and financial resources and the third to activities.

“It should be noted that this report is established on the basis of two conventions ratified by Burkina Faso in 1974. Convention 81 and Convention 129 on labor inspection,” he argued.

According to Mr. Ouattara, Burkina must provide its annual report before March 31, 2023 to meet an international labor requirement.

According to him, out of 1,853 establishments checked in Burkina Faso, between the period from January 1 to December 31, 2021, 309,778 workers were affected with 100,663 cases of violations.

“In addition, in terms of advisory support, we also support companies in setting up occupational health and safety committees and the election of staff representatives,” he continued.

The acting DG of the General Labor Inspectorate noted that under the Occupational Health and Safety Committees, his structure was able to support 67 installations.
