Burkina/SAMAO 2023: Strong recommendations for greater mobilization of local resources

The lanterns of the fifth edition of the West African Mining Activities Week (SAMAO) went out yesterday Friday, with strong recommendations in the mining sector for mobilization increased use of local resources.

‘After two days of intense work, we are at the end of the fifth edition of the West African Mining Activities Week (SAMAO) 2023,’ indicated the Minister in charge of Mines, Simon-Pierre Boussim who read the closing speech of the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

According to him, this 48-hour framework for exchanges and sharing of experiences is accompanied by strong decisions or recommendations to impact the mining sector for greater mobilization of local resources in Africa.

Mr. Boussim specified that this concerns, among other things, the organization, the strengthening of the capacities of actors in the supply of goods and services, the pooling of the efforts of African countries, the creation of African champions of ‘mining The first head of the department in charge of Mi
nes highlighted the creation of a guarantee fund to support subcontracting, support for local initiatives to secure mining sites, control of the processing and supply of artisanal exploitation etc.

The minister also focused on the creation of socio-economic infrastructure for mining companies before the start of mining work, the development of national standards for products resulting from the transformation of quarry substances.

Simon-Pierre Boussim also thanked the Technical and Financial Partners (PTF), Civil Society Organizations (CSO) and mining stakeholders who spare no effort to support his department in achieving its set objectives.

‘Synergy is underway with the mining countries of West Africa for a better impact of mining on our local economies,’ he maintained.

Listening to him, Burkina Faso wants to show its resilience to investors and internationals, in a difficult security and humanitarian context with the organization of the fifth edition of SAMAO 2023.

As a reminder, SAMAO opened its doors
on Thursday September 28, 2023 in Ouagadougou under the theme ‘Mining in Africa: what strategy to impact local economies’.
