Deputy Minister Thembi Siweya to lead Africa’s webinar on Women’s Socio-Economic Empowerment and Advancement

Deputy Minister in The Presidency of the Republic of South Africa, Ms. Thembi Siweya, will lead the webinar on women’s socio-economic empowerment and advancement on Monday, 29 August 2022, at 10:00 CAT. The event is organised by Government Communication and Information System in partnership with Brand South Africa, BintiAfrika Konnect, and Mail & Guardian.

The event is held under the theme: Women’s Socio-Economic Rights and Empowerment: Building Back Better for Women’s Improved Resilience, and it provides an opportunity to pay tribute to the generations of women whose struggles laid the foundations for the progress in realising a conducive environment, which enables women to prosper.

In line with gender equality goals, the emphasis will be on elevating the voices of ordinary women serving on the globe across sectors of society. The aim is to promote the radical transformation of gender relations and the political, social, and economic empowerment of all women across all industries, including young women and those with disabilities.

The event creates a platform for various stakeholders in Africa and the world to exchange information on empowering women and achieving inclusive growth across all sectors.

The speakers in the programme are:

• Ms. Phumla Williams: Director General of GCIS and Cabinet of South Africa Spokesperson

• Ms. Valerie Ndeneingo-Sia Msoka: A seasoned journalist from Tanzania. One of the Founding members of the Tanzania Media Women Association and Chairperson of Tanzania ending Child Marriage Network.

• Ms. Mmabatlharo Nono Dihemo: Senior Gender Advisor at the United Nations Assistance Mission for Afghanistan, Women’s rights and minority’s rights activist and advocate for gender equality. Binti Afrika, co-founder, and Southern Africa Editor.

• Ms. Victoria Rowan: Research and Media Strengthening Project Officer and Binti Afrika co-founder and Eastern/Central Africa Editor

Event will be moderated by Ms. Nzinga Qunta, the global business news anchor.
