Addis Ababa Celebrates Fasika with Nationwide Easter Observances

Addis Ababa — Ethiopian Christians celebrated Fasika, known internationally as Easter, today, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion. The holiday, deeply rooted in Christian tradition, signifies the end of a nearly two-month period of fasting.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, On the eve of Fasika, worshippers gathered in churches across Ethiopia to participate in overnight services that concluded at 3 a.m., at which point they broke their fast. According to religious leaders in Ethiopia, the Easter celebration is a pivotal time for prayer focused on the peace and security of humankind and supporting those in need. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed optimism regarding Ethiopia’s resilience and future prosperity in his Easter message.
