Church Leaders Call for People-Oriented Solutions in Bi-Partisan Talks

Nairobi – Churches in Kenya, including the National Council of Churches in Kenya, Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, and the Supreme Council of Kenya in Nairobi Region, have urged the participants in the bi-partisan talks to persist in their efforts and find solutions that prioritize the people’s interests. The churches emphasized the urgency of recruiting Commissioners for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), considering it critical for avoiding constitutional crises.

According to Kenya News Agency, during a forum at Ufungamano House in Nairobi, aimed at assessing the state of the nation and recommending measures for peace and well-being, church leaders acknowledged the progress made by the National Dialogue Committee. They noted that the dialogue had brought hope and ended the demonstrations earlier witnessed in Nairobi County.

The church leaders released a press statement calling for dialogue and consultations among County governors and members of County Assemblies to safeguard service delivery. They also advocated for public participation in national and county government development initiatives.

Addressing the high cost of living, the religious leaders called for public discourse on combating corruption, which has infiltrated various sectors in the country. They commended the residents of Nairobi and Kiambu Counties for maintaining peace and cohesion and encouraged continued resilience against environmental and socio-political challenges to fulfill the aspirations of Kenya’s national anthem.
