Armenia Expresses Interest in Strengthening Ties with Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA – Armenia is eager to enhance its bilateral and multilateral relations with Ethiopia, stated Ambassador Sahak Sargsyan in an interview with the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA). The ambassador emphasized the strong religious, historical, and cultural connections between the two nations as a basis for expanding these relations.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the countries already cooperate in areas such as culture, education, and information technology. However, he expressed a desire to broaden these partnerships to include tourism, agriculture, and energy sectors. Additionally, he highlighted the role of Armenian individuals in Ethiopian history, such as Kevork Nalbandian, who composed Ethiopia’s national anthem used until 1974, and his nephew, a key figure in modern Ethiopian music. The ambassador also mentioned ongoing plans to further cultural connections through a documentary film and concert arrangements. He underscored that while the diplomatic relations were formally established only four years ago with the opening of the Armenian Embassy in Ethiopia, the relationship is robust and expanding.
